The Past Two Weeks
Well, the last two weeks have truly been a testament to the Chinese curse “May you live in interesting times,” for me. I’ve been through a lot of upheaval but through it have learned a lot about myself. For instance, last Friday, I broke my foot in three places. During the intervening time, I’ve worked on some personal development in my professional areas which has led to a lot of self-discovery.
As many of my mentors say, “You don’t know what you don’t know.” I’ve always thought I knew myself fairly well, but I’ve learned in the last week that no matter how well I know the private me, I may not know my professional self as well as I should. Just one area that I learned I was lacking (thanks to the book Selling to VITO: Get to the Top. Get to the Point. Get to the Sale by Anthony Parnell) is the fact that I don’t know what my sales process should be. I’d never thought about it. So in chapter three, I’m exploring writing my sales process.
I know, I know. You either do or do not. “Exploring” is just a cop-out… Actually, it’s not. I’m “exploring” it because I’m not sure what my process should look like. In order to find out what it should look like, I’m researching other people’s processes. I find that in order to do something that I had never considered before, I must explore it, turn it over, upside down, inside out, take it apart and put it together again before I feel I can do it.
I’m sorry to say that this post is mainly just a ramble about my last week, but sometimes that’s what we all need.
